Eugene Plotkin became a Wall Street investment banker at Goldman Sachs, where he worked as an analyst focused on technology companies such as Google and Microsoft Corporation. After being at Goldman Sachs for five years, Eugene Plotkin left the investment banking firm to start his own company called Melvin Capital, which specialized in investing in technology companies such as Airbnb and SpaceX.

Plotkin attended the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with a master’s degree in business administration (MBA). He has also studied at the London School of Economics and Columbia University, New York. According to Plotkin, he was inspired to start a business after reading a book about the American entrepreneur and venture capitalist Peter Thiel.
After leaving Goldman Sachs, Eugene Plotkin founded Melvin Capital, where he focused on investing in tech companies such as Airbnb and SpaceX, both space tourism companies. While at Melvin Capital, Eugene Plotkin developed a passion for financial technologies and later started Wealthfront, where he serves as CEO of the company that manages investments for high-net-worth individuals (HNIs). Wealthfront also offers personal financial services such as Robo-advisors (automated investment advisors) tailored to HNIs with complex financial needs, including retirement and estate planning.
Plotkin has been a prominent leader in the Jewish community as he is on multiple boards, such as the Israeli-American Council and The Israel Project (a non-profit organization that promotes Israel’s image in America). Plotkin also serves on several other boards, such as The Jewish Federation, The Center for Social Innovation, The New York City Partnership for Excellence in Education, American Friends of Tel Aviv University, and The Endowment for Middle East Truth. In addition to being on these boards, Plotkin supports many other causes, including those of Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF USA, The American Red Cross, UNICEF UK & Ireland (UK), SaveTheChildren (UK), and World Vision International (USA).
Eugene Plotkin has received several awards throughout his career, including the Goldman Sachs Communicator Award, The Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Jewish Federation, and the Goldman Sachs Communicator Award for Social Impact.
