Fortress Investment Group is an American private equity and investment management company whose headquarters is in New York. It was established as a private equity firm in 1998. The group focuses on large-scale investments in infrastructure, real estate, and infrastructure finance.
Fortress Investment Group was the first publicly-traded company in New York, with revenues of $2 billion in 2017. Its founders, Wes Edens and Rob Kauffman have more than 50 years of experience in the industry.
The latest deal between Fortress and SoftBank has resulted in the third-largest payout in the history of the Fortress Investment Group. The latest private equity fund has received nearly $93.8 million in management fees. This figure is up from $23 million in 2015. The firm also received $18.4 billion in profit from its third private equity fund and another $9.9 million in 2014. This means the company has made a record number of billions from investing in its funds.
The Fortress Investment Group had $17.3 billion in revenue in 2005. The fund’s assets increased by 100 percent per year. In contrast, its investments were not publicly traded and were often in the form of illiquid assets. Moreover, the fund’s valuation was based on internal models that had several unobservable parameters. Many of the fund’s Fortress owned were not publicly traded and were therefore suspect.
